Q: How to solve non-working external monitor with Baseus HUB Working Station and MacBook Pro?
A: System Preferences –> Displays –> (Hold Option key) Detect Displays
Recently I bought a docking station for my MacBook Pro (16 inch, 2019) from Baseus. This particular version has three HDMI ports that allow one to connect up to three independent 4K displays, though in macOS they work only as mirrored displays (did not have a chance to test with Windows). However, you can still use one 4K monitor with 60 Hz frequency, which is a way better than only 30 Hz available with original USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter by Apple.
Unfortunately, external display does not work smoothly with this station. At some point, once I wake up my notebook from hibernation or sleep, display stays black (or shows No signal detected
, depending on the model), and the cursor lags for a bit every second or so (independent of the input source, whether it is mouse or trackpad).
I tried:
- to reconnect the display from Baseus station, then the station itself from my MacBook;
- to replace the cable;
- to power up the station from two power adapters (one by Baseus and one from MacBook);
- to change the parameters of a display in macOS (such as scale).
It helps eventually, but the problem returns.
I did not found the solution on the internet, but occasionally I found a simple workaround myself that works every time, and stays at least until I disconnect the station from my MacBook. These are two simple steps:
- Go to System Preferences –> Displays.
2. Press and hold Option key (⌥). The button Gather Windows
changes to Detect Displays
. Click on Detect Displays
.
The display connected to Baseus HUB Working Station will eventually turn on. It seems that MacBook sends some kind of a signal that wakes up a sleeping display. Do you have a reasonable explanation, why this is happening?
